March 29, 2011 - CRN Presents Public Comments on City of Chicago Low Income Housing Qualified Allocation Plan

A Qualified Allocation Plan outlines and explains the City's requirements and basis for awarding tax credits for housing developments. CRN urges the City to adopt a scoring system, prioritize non-profits, match resources with demand, and encourage density levels that promote sustainability.


FEBRUARY 14, 2011 - CITY RELEASES PLAN FOR THirD ROUND OF NSP

The City has released its plan to use the additional $16 million under teh third round of the Neighborhood Stabilization Program. The City will accept public comment until midnight on February 26th. Stay tuned for CRN's comments on the Plan.


February 8, 2011 - Toolkit Release No. 2 - Household Instability Increases Dramatically-Chicago At Risk

Nearly half of all Chicago households spend too much on housing, according to the most recent American Community Survey data from the U. S. Census. More than 472,000 households in the entire city are at risk, with insufficient income to pay for transportation, education, health care, and other essential items.

AUGUST 24, 2010 - CITY PRELIMINARY BUDGET HEARINGS

With a projected $654 million shortfall in corporate fund revenue in FY 2011, the City is faced once again with a difficult financial outlook. As the impact of the economic recession continues, CRN calls on the City to prioritize affordable housing, maintain funding for the Department of Community Development, and include Tax Increment Financing activities in the City Budget.

JULY 7, 2010 - SWEET HOME CHICAGO ORDINANCE

Today, a Joint Meeting of the Committee on Finance and Committee of Housing and Real Estate heard testimony on the Sweet Home Chicago Ordinance which would target 20 percent of citywide TIF revenue towards affordable housing.

CRN's Kevin Jackson testified on the need for affordability and that using TIF funds to preserve and create affordable housing can provide a real economic stimulus for Chicago communities.
